Build in a buffer day
Plan your arrival not on the original-submission deadline, but 24 hours earlier. Trains are late, admissions offices close early for technical breaks, and you don't want to be standing outside with the original in your hand until morning. The "Admission Week" discount for 5+ nights makes a 7-night stay only marginally more expensive than 5 — but a free day is priceless.

Don't lug the whole packet — copy in advance
Diploma with grade sheet, passport (pages 2-3 and residence stamp), SNILS, enlistment certificate, benefits documents — make 4-5 copies at home where copying is cheaper. In Tula "Kopir-tsentr" at 47 Sovetskaya St charges 5 RUB per page (100 pages = 500 RUB), but the copier at a university office is "broken today" more often than not.

During the application stage you can submit copies to 5 universities and 5 programmes per university. Carry the original only when you're certain — July 28 or August 3. Until then it lives in our safe and you walk between universities light-handed.

Budget for an appeal
If an entrance exam is graded below expectation, an appeal must be filed within 24 hours of the announcement. That's one extra day in Tula. Book 7 nights, not 5 — if the appeal is not needed, you leave early without a penalty.
