Total: 3 hours 40 minutes of exhibits + 20 minutes buffer for café/restroom = 4 hours. Bottom-up order also works, but by the 4th floor your legs won't be the same — better to distribute the load over the visit.

What to bring to the "Helmet" for 4 hours

Don't confuse the arms museum with a 40-minute art gallery. 4 hours is a marathon: 6 floors, stairs, standing at cases, long captions. What should be in your backpack (we advise guests at the front desk before they leave):

Comfortable flat-soled shoes. Heels and stiff boots will give up by the 3rd floor. Sneakers, loafers, mocs — the right call.

A 0.5 L water bottle. No drinking at the cases, but okay on 3rd and 6th floor landings. A bottle in the café is 150 ₽; at the "Magnit" store near the hostel — 45 ₽.

A pen and small notebook (or phone notes). Older kids like to jot down dates and calibres — they retell it at school later.

A compact snack. Bar, nuts, dried fruit — for when the café queue is long (up to 30 min on weekends). No eating in the halls, but there are benches in the 1st and 3rd floor lobbies.

Power bank or charger. Four hours of photos/video will drain any phone. Sockets in the museum are only in the café.

A warm layer in the bag — floors 5 and 6 run heavy on the AC even in summer, and the observation deck gets draughty.

Your own earphones for the audio guide. The museum audio guide is 300 ₽; personal earphones (3.5 mm jack) save you from worn-out museum ones.

Rules proven on dozens of guests who did the "Helmet" in one day. Read before you leave — you'll save an hour on "where to next" and won't burn out halfway.

Arrive at opening — 10:00

The first hour the museum is half-empty: no one at the cases, audio guides still available, café with no queue. After 12:00 bus tours arrive — floors 3 and 4 get packed.

Go top-down — start from the 6th floor

The observation deck needs fresh legs and attention. Descending, you won't skip it from fatigue, and you'll reach the reading-heavy 2nd-floor historical halls with a still-clear head.

Lunch strictly on the 3rd floor, 12:30–13:00

The café opens at 11:00, peak queue is 13:30–14:30. If you eat at 12:30, you're back to the exhibits by 13:00 with no wasted time. Average bill — 500–700 ₽ per person (pricey — that's why we suggest a "Magnit" snack from home).

The audio guide is mandatory for floors 2 and 3

Case captions are short (40–60 words); the audio guide gives 3–5 minutes of stories per exhibit — how the weapon got its name and who used it. 300 ₽ pays for itself in the first hall.

Leave at 14:00 — time left for the Kremlin

The Kremlin is 400 m from the "Helmet"; another 2 hours of easy walking: Assumption Cathedral, walls, Upa embankment, Kazan church. Day's total: museum + Kremlin without a taxi, back at the hostel by 17:00 to rest before dinner.
