Hostel "Myagko i Tochka" is a working base for a one- or two-day family trip to Belousov Central Park of Culture and Leisure: 1.5 km on foot from the Pervomayskaya Street entrance (~15 minutes) or 5–7 minutes by taxi from 100 rubles. We are in the center at 171 Karl Marx Street — easy to come back tired with a child in your arms in the evening rather than hunt for transport from an outskirts area. From 400 rubles per bed per night, a family of three from 1,200 rubles per night, no deposit, with an equipped kitchen and a washing machine (very useful after a puddle and an ice cream).

Belousov Park is 143 hectares for a 5–10-year-old: rides with working carousels and a mini-train, a children's traffic-training zone, a zoo with 40+ species and a feeding schedule, a pond with swans and a summer boat rental, a dozen free playgrounds with slides and swings, a summer fountain on the central alley, bike and roller rentals in summer, an ice rink with rentals and ski trails in winter. A day in the park realistically fits into 800–1,500 rubles for a family with one child — if you pack sandwiches from Magnit and skip the "one of everything" approach to rides. Meals are not included in the room price — but our kitchen works, so you can cook breakfast and pack a picnic.

In winter, replace boats and bikes with the ice rink (skate rental ~250 rubles/hour), tubing on the hill, and ski trails (rental from 300 rubles/hour). The zoo runs year-round, but check hours on site — winter closing may shift to 17:00.

What to bring to the park with a 5–10-year-old

Collected from the families that stayed with us before a Belousov Park trip. Everything fits into one 20-litre backpack — no need to drag a suitcase, and the child will enjoy carrying a small backpack with water and wipes.

1. Picnic (Magnit groceries beat park cafe prices)

Sandwiches with cheese and ham, cucumbers, apples/bananas, a juice box or a 0.5 L water bottle per person. A 130×150 cm blanket to spread by the pond or on the central meadow. The park has cafe terraces (lunch 400–800 rubles per adult), but a 150–250-ruble picnic is often more fun for a child — and you don't have to drag a hungry kid across the park to a table. Our kitchen has a fridge, chopping board, knives, and cling film to prep sandwiches in the morning.

2. Spare clothes and a second pair of socks

A 5–10-year-old will find a puddle, a sandbox, or wet grass. Pack dry socks, a T-shirt, and light trousers. A raincoat or a light windbreaker (park weather can change within the hour) takes little space. Our hostel washing machine handles muddy returns — throw it in, and by morning it's dry on the racks.

3. Sunscreen and a hat

Summer at the park has open alleys and playgrounds — SPF 30+ on face, neck, and arms. A cap or a sun hat is a must for the child (heatstroke at 25°C+ is real). Forgot yours? Rigla pharmacy is 5 minutes from the hostel with kids' SPF 50+ (Bioderma Photoderm KID, Vichy Capital Soleil, and affordable alternatives).

4. Mini first-aid kit

Plasters (kids scrape knees after rides), a hand sanitizer or 50 ml Miramistin, children's paracetamol syrup (heat plus loud rides can spike a fever). All of it fits into a pencil-case-sized pouch. Forgot something? Rigla is 5 minutes on foot from the hostel.

5. Wet wipes, sanitizer, trash bags

After the zoo, hands must be washed or sanitized (feeding carrots, touching fences). Bring a trash bag — bins aren't everywhere in the park. Our reception can always hand out extra wipes and sanitizer.

Parents usually spend 3,000–4,000 rubles for a family with one child at the park if they wing it: arrived at noon, ate at a cafe, tried every ride, bought souvenirs. You can realistically stay under 1,200–1,800 rubles — here is how:

Arrive at zoo opening (10:00) — smaller queues, less heat

After noon, the zoo box office fills up with strollers, day-camp groups, and buses from neighboring regions. At opening — free, all animals are active (not tired of visitors yet, waiting for feeding), photos without other people's heads in the frame. From our hostel to the park entrance is a 15-minute walk; leave at 9:30 and reach the zoo gate for opening.

A park cafe runs 400 rubles per adult, kids' set from 300. A Magnit picnic (sandwiches + juice + apples + cookies) is 150–250 rubles per person and gives 3–4 times more freedom: sit where you like, the child eats as much as they want, without stares and without "we're closing your table." A 130×150 blanket packs small.

Pick 2–3 rides, not the "full circuit"

Ten rides at 200–300 rubles is 2,500 rubles for a child and by evening everyone is done. Agree ahead: "pick your three favorites." Usually a 5–7-year-old goes for the mini-train + carousel + bumper cars; a 7–10-year-old chooses trampoline + bumper cars + Ferris wheel. Save 1,500–2,000 rubles with the same peak of joy.
