Tula Kremlin — one of Russia's oldest
Founded in 1520. All 9 of its towers survive in their original form — an unusual completeness for a Russian kremlin. Entry to the grounds is free; you pay only for the museums inside. Before 10 AM there are no bus tour groups — the cleanest time for photos.

Yasnaya Polyana is not in Tula — it's 14 km away
Leo Tolstoy's estate is in Shchekino district. From Tula, take minibus № 114 or scheduled buses from the Mosina Street terminal — 40 minutes. Taxi is 700–900 ₽ one way, bus is 80 ₽. Monday is a day off at the estate — plan any other day.

GOST gingerbread is 3× cheaper than souvenir-shop gingerbread
The exact same "Tula Gingerbread" from the same factory in a souvenir shop by the Kremlin costs 250–400 ₽, but at "Magnit" across the road from our hostel — 80–130 ₽. Look for "ГОСТ 15810" on the pack — it's the same recipe. You pay 200% for the souvenir wrapping.

From Moscow to Tula — take "Lastochka", not the bus
The "Lastochka" express train from Kursky Station reaches Tula in 2 hours 5 minutes, from 800 ₽. The bus takes 3.5 hours for 700 ₽ and gets stuck in M4 highway traffic. Book the return "Lastochka" the same day as the outbound — evening trains sell out fast.

In central Tula, the tram beats a taxi at rush hour
From 5 PM to 7 PM Lenin Avenue is stationary. Trams № 12 and № 14 run on a dedicated track and get you from the station to the centre in 15 minutes versus 40 by taxi. Fare — 32 ₽ by "Mir" card; taxi at that hour — 350–500 ₽.

Luggage room runs from 8 AM to 10 PM, both before check-in and after check-out — free for hostel guests. So if your train arrives at 7:30 AM and the return is 22:15 — you're free from your suitcase all day and roam the Kremlin with just a backpack.

Do laundry on arrival day, not on departure day
Our washing machine works from 8 AM to 10 PM, free. If you arrived in dirty travel clothes — start a wash right after check-in (2 hours with drying), not in a rush before leaving. Iron and ironing board — on the shared kitchen.
What's Next Door: "Magnit" and "Rigla" Under Your Nose
Across the road from us (150 m, 2 min walk) is "Magnit" supermarket with the full tourist kit: yoghurt and cottage cheese for breakfast, ready-made salads and roast chicken for dinner, the famous Tula GOST gingerbread (3× cheaper than souvenir gingerbread by the Kremlin), medovukha (honey wine) and locally-made "Belyov pastila" in gift packaging — 200–300 ₽ versus 500–800 ₽ at souvenir shops. Hours: 8 AM to 11 PM, no breaks.
"Rigla" pharmacy in the same block (5 min walk) is indispensable for active walking around the Kremlin and embankment in summer: SPF 30–50 sunscreen (Tula in summer is not a cold northern city, +28 ℃ on the embankment is real), blister plasters (after 6 km of cobblestones you'll get them), hydrogel for chafing, heartburn remedies after medovukha and gingerbread lunches. Open until 10 PM, on-duty branch — 24/7.
